Originally an extremely successful colour printing company the business went from strength to strength in the early 1800’s, mainly due to it’s Playing card business and by 1833 it was able to move into impressive accommodation in Finsbury London.
Soon after The business moved into stationary and were awarded a four year contract with the board of the inland revenue to produce stamps
By the late 1880’s De La Rue were producing their first writing instruments.
Initially producing Hard rubber Stylographs and Eyedroppers the company then invented it’s own filling system which became extremely successful by 1912.
Early Piston fills and the later extremely high quality leverfill are much sought after. Onoto de la Rue’s have exceptionally high quality nibs.
